NCTC is devoted and committed to commissioning brilliant playwrights, showcasing talented artists, and 

uplifting the voices of creative students of the queer and allied communities in our warm, welcoming theatre space.


New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC) has been in operation since 1981. Still led by its Founding Artistic Director, Ed Decker, NCTC provides the San Francisco community with high-quality youth education programming, Queer & Allied theatre, children’s theatre, and new work commissions. NCTC’s annual operating budget is approximately 2 million.

Our mission is to champion innovative, high-quality productions & educational theatre experiences for youth, artists, and the queer & allied communities to effect personal & societal growth, enlightenment, and change.

Our vision is that theatre is a community event and a way to build community.

There are three primary programs at New Conservatory Theatre Center with the following missions and central aims:

1. MAINSTAGE

Mission:
To develop & produce queer & allied theatre that gives voice entertains, celebrates diversity, fosters communication, and promotes exploration.

2. EDUCATION

Mission:
To develop and direct theatre education through classes, camps, performances, and touring productions to empower youth to express themselves, celebrate differences, and gain self-esteem.

Programs Include:
YOUTH CONSERVATORY: To provide theatre education to K-12 students at NTC and bring residencies to afterschool programs through our Satellite Drama Education Program

YOUTHAWARE: To develop and produce performances to educate youth and those who guide them, focusing on challenging issues, new ideas, and making choices that will positively impact their lives.

3. NEW VOICES / NEW WORK:

Mission: 
To commission and develop new work for young audiences to expand the canon of LGBTQ-themed plays. Over four decades, New Voices/New Work has produced over 40 world premieres, celebrating and giving voice to a broad range of playwrights.
