As trans and gender-expansive Christians, the celebration of Pride every June offers a special time to reflect on our lineage of faith and liberation. We honor our spiritual ancestors who fought for a church and world where LGBTQ+ people can thrive and share their irreplaceable gifts. From Joan of Arc to Marsha P. Johnson, we connect to those who have resisted oppressive structures, challenged harmful theologies, and created life-saving and life-giving networks of care.

Of course, we are also part of that lineage! In our support groups, in our online community, in our church education programs, and in our mutual aid network, we are continuing the legacy of those foreparents, envisioning and embodying a church and world where all are made free. At a time when the trans community is under profound threat, we are creating places of safety where community members can explore and discover their deepest selves and connect to a God who loves them for everything that they are.

This month, we’re inviting you to consider how you can deepen your connection to this family history of resistance and care. In honor of Pride, two of our community members have partnered to offer a $10k match challenge throughout the month of June. Our goal is to raise $5k in individual donations, and $5k from partnering church communities, to reach this $10k match.

We’re especially calling on those seeking to step into deeper allyship with their trans siblings to consider a gift this month. In the midst of the current wave of anti-trans violence, we at TMC continue to do the work that only we can do. We need those less directly impacted to lighten our load by offering material resources. If you belong to an LGBT+ affirming church community, consider dedicating one or more of your Sunday offerings this month to TMC. And if you’re an ally, think about setting up a recurring gift to build sustainability for TMC’s work.
