The Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia (TAP VA) is an all-volunteer, trans-led  501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was created in 2015 to end homelessness within the transgender community in Virginia. TAP VA provides educational opportunities around the crucial fact that trans rights are human rights by highlighting the intersectionality between homelessness, transphobia, discrimination, socioeconomic status, and racism within the trans community in Virginia.

We provide safe, emergency housing to homeless transgender adults in Virginia and to help them find the additional resources they need to remove the barriers to self-sufficiency. In addition to our housing program:

  1. We have a clothing closet program to provide gender-affirming clothing to trans people.
  2. We continue to work in our community to provide education surrounding the issues trans people face on a daily basis.
  3. And most importantly, we connect trans people to a community of people who understands them and can help them succeed.
