GIVE BACK 2 MOVE FORWARD
Heyyyyyyy my people <3
If you were in a GSA club, participated in a GSA Network leadership program, or are an ally/accomplice/friend to our people, this is your invitation to reconnect with the GSA (trans, queer, two-spirit youth) movement and to stay ready as we continue Devising Freedom!
The GSA movement gave me the space and support to grow as a youth organizer in high school, and I am committed to helping our movement continue raising up GSA clubs and their trans, queer, two-spirit youth leaders.
Our work at GSA Network is rooted in a history of trans, queer, two-spirit young people who transformed themselves and their friends into activists, organizers, and leaders for justice and liberation. This history includes youth like the street kids of STAR (1970), early student clubs like George Washington High School Gay International Youth Society (1972), and the East High GSA students (1996) who sued for their right to gather and helped codify the rights of all public school students to organize themselves. When GSA Network was established in 1998 as a nonprofit organization, we aimed to build and sustain a network that connects GSA clubs and student leaders who were bringing change to their campuses and communities throughout the Bay Area, then California, then across the United States.
Today, we continue to fortify GSA clubs as local political homes for TQ2S young people and their friends, grounding our youth organizing work in our four-part organizational strategy, Devising Freedom.
HOMECOMING - GSAs break isolation and create a sense of belonging for TQ2S youth
TRUTHTELLING - GSAs help TQ2S youth speak truth to power
SPIRITSUSTAINING - GSAs teach TQ2S youth about lifelong care of self + community
STARGAYZING - GSAs help make it possible for TQ2S youth to craft new worlds
Thank you to our community of accomplices, allies, friends for supporting GSA clubs and trans, queer, two-spirit young people over the last 25+ years!
Note to Alumni: I am so glad you’re still here. YES, we have the duty to help keep newer generations motivated to fight for their freedom, to live for their freedom, and to love for their freedom. Maybe that could happen without intergenerational support… but imagine what is possible when we show up for our people—and keep showing up. In the same ways that GSA Network transformed our hearts and minds, we must give back in order for the GSA movement to move forward.
