We need your help. The work isn't done.
This year, Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, November 28. Giving Tuesday brings together a global community around generosity and collective action. Giving Tuesday isn’t just about fundraising — It’s about communities banding together and sharing their time, power, skills, expertise, and resources.
LGBT Detroit needs your help and support now more than ever.
LGBT Detroit activates, amplifies, and sustains LGBT+ culture, education, advocacy, and human rights. Our most innovative campaign, Togethr, has combated HIV/AIDS stigma in our communities for more than two years.
Unfortunately, our largest campaign donor has not renewed their support for the Togethr campaign. We received this sad denial announcement in early November. This unfortunate decision has suddenly impacted the viability of LGBT Detroit’s programming.
To date, The City of Detroit and Southeast Michigan remain the ground zero of diagnosed HIV-positive persons in Michigan. In 2020, about 10,800 people were living with HIV in Detroit alone. In 2020, 334 people were newly diagnosed. The Togethr Campaign addresses HIV stigma by unpacking untruths through open dialogue, demystifying sex, and ending shaming and judgment based on one's sexual orientation, gender identity, or otherwise.
Togethr uses multiple approaches to achieve its anti-HIV stigma goals, including:
- A social media campaign
- A mentorship program
- A video podcast
- An educational and health-focused sex-positive pride event, and
- A regional anti-stigma educational tour
Help the movement. To avoid layoffs, think about making a meaningful gift to LGBT Detroit. This will ensure the campaign remains operational during the year when the need is greatest.
We are expecting relief. Unfortunately, it will not arrive soon enough. Your donation will provide intermediate funding for LGBT Detroit to keep staff employed and continue providing services to our most at-risk communities.
Please donate. The work isn't done. Your gift matters now more than ever.
