Lavender Phoenix's work in building queer and trans Asian and Pacific Islander community, support, and power, has always been vital, and is now more vital than ever. Though their work is locally rooted in the Bay Area, its effects ripple outwards, and I am a prime example of that. I have been involved with Lavender Phoenix (formerly APIENC) for eight years. I started working with them as part of a community-engaged learning course in college, and continued as a summer organizer and volunteer, eventually a volunteer from afar.
Our communities are under threat in too many ways to count. The ACLU is trying to count some of the legislative attacks on queer and trans people here: https://www.aclu.org/legislative-attacks-on-lgbtq-rights. These threats are both material--stripping access to medical care, rolling back civil rights--and epistemological--book bans are a prime example of the ideology that queer and especially trans people should not be known, and should not exist. Lavender Phoenix's work pushes back on both these axes, providing critical counseling and crisis-intervention services alongside oral history resources and spaces for community joy.
Lavender Phoenix is a grassroots organization powered by small donations, and every dollar you give will go directly to life-changing, sometimes life-saving, work. Below, find more information about Lavender Phoenix's current work and suggested donation amounts. All donations make a difference!

We are reaching deep into our wisdom to launch a peer counseling program led by-and-for trans APIs, build community safety through our de-escalation and crisis-intervention workshops, grow the next generation of QTAPI leaders through our Summer Organizer Program, and so much more.
Lavender Phoenix's members are leading transformative work. But to ensure this work can last and grow, we need everyone. Will you DONATE TODAY and help us rise to NEW HEIGHTS? You can donate:
- $200: for the 20 trans API volunteers training to become peer counselors!
- $120: for the 12th year of our Queer API Justice Leadership Exchange trainings!
- $70: for the 7 young trans and queer APIs joining our Summer Organizer Program!
- $50: for the 5 member-led committees working to build our community’s power!
- $20: for Lavender Godzilla and Phoenix Rising, the two historic newsletters we are named after!
- Whatever amount feels right to YOU!
