For 20 years now, TGI Justice Project has been dedicated to providing invaluable services to the Black transgender, gender variant, and intersex (TGI) community of San Francisco and beyond. Our leaders’ expertise is vast, with a primary focus on Black trans leadership development, community organizing, and legal and social support services for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated trans individuals, with a particular emphasis on the Black TGI community. What sets us apart is our very nature, as we are one of the first and only legal advocacy and support organizations driven by formerly incarcerated Black TGI individuals. Our services are specifically tailored to reach those in the San Francisco area who are not reached by other organizations.
As we revisit the roots of our legacy, we uplift the lineage of our Black TGI and formerly incarcerated leaders. We center our legal, reentry, and leadership development programs to support advocacy and organizing led by members of the impacted TGI community. The Melenie Eleneke Grassroots Re-Entry/Socio-Economic Program empowers 7 of our community members per year to re-imagine and develop their lives after incarceration through job access, housing, healthcare, and community. Our legal services serve 50+ people in our reentry community each month through direct legal assistance, forming city and state policy that supports our TGI community, and legal name and gender changes. Our prison correspondence project breaks through the walls of jails and prisons to connect us with over 100 of us each month on the inside for legal needs, advocacy, and community love.
With our roots planted firmly in the legacy of our community leadership, TGI Justice Project is looking ahead to the liberated future we are building and what it will take to get there. With your support, we can strengthen these structures of care and the resources we know our TGI community deserves. Can we count on you to support Black TGI leadership and community?
In grateful solidarity,
TGI Justice Project
