A.B.O. STANDS FOR ABOLITION!
Using the D.I.Y. ideology of "punk-zine" culture, A.B.O. Comix is a collective of creators and activists who work to amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ prisoners through art. AB.O. began with an ethos of mutual support, community, and friendship. We believe that artistic advocacy proliferates the idea of a better world and redefines concepts of justice, where interpersonal and societal issues can be solved without locking people in cages. Our mission is to combat the culture that treats humans as disposable and disproportionately criminalizes the most marginalized among us.
After seven years of collaborative efforts with incarcerated Queer artists, A.B.O. has proudly launched its own art gallery and retail space in downtown Oakland, CA. Occupying a physical space has been a thrilling journey that's enhanced the collective's ability to support our incarcerated friends. The A.B.O. gallery acts as a repository for a vast array of prisoner art, a central hub for volunteers, and a dynamic meeting place for like-minded organizations and individuals in the Bay Area. Since its opening in April 2023, A.B.O. Comix has built a robust and continually developing lineup of programming that informs and involves individuals from diverse backgrounds in understanding the LGBTQIA+ experience within the U.S. prison system. Supporting this initiative ensures that A.B.O. can continue make revolutionary history in the already radically recognized community of Oakland, CA.
Your support on Give Out Day is invaluable to everyone at A.B.O. Comix. Donations of any size enable our collective to sustain this work and effect meaningful change in the lives of Queer individuals affected by the prison system and their families. Thank you!
