COLAGE

WE ARE A MOVEMENT of children in LGBTQ families who have been fighting for respect and equality for our families for 25 years through compassion, understanding, love, and inclusiveness. Empower us to support the next generations of change makes today.

COLAGE unites people with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer parents into a network of peers and supports them as they nurture and empower each other to be skilled, self-confident, and just leaders in our collective communities. 

Our national programming reaches COLAGErs across the nation by providing community, a safe space, empowering leaders and advocating on behalf of people with one or more LGBTQ parents.

Various estimates suggest that today there are more than two million children being raised by LGBTQ parents in the United States, and more are being born or adopted every day. LGBTQ-headed families reflect the diversity of the broader society in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, geography, and socio-economic status. From a very early age, people with LGBTQ parents often face overt homophobia, transphobia, and racism directed at their families. But, there are tremendous and unique opportunities for COLAGErs too.  

People with LGBTQ parents bring unique and much needed voices to public debate and advocacy over issues that affect them and their families, including marriage and family recognition and safe schools. COLAGE plays a critical role in ensuring that the perspective of COLAGErs is represented in these efforts, and the power of COLAGErs is leveraged for positive social change. In this way, COLAGE works to expand the very notion of family and to build a national, intergenerational, multi-cultural movement of community leaders and social justice organizers.
